Troubleshooting data tables and forms

There is no Data Tables entry in the menu.

Your plan does not include data tables (free plugin, or an expired license). See Trials, renewals and expiry.

Saving a table says Field "x": Group fields cannot be used in a data table.

That column type is not available for tables. See the type list.

Saving columns says These names still hold data from removed columns: ...

You added a column named like a column you removed earlier; its data is still stored. Choose another key, or clear the orphan columns first (Table health).

The table cannot be deleted: This data table is used by: ....

A Programmatic SEO task, a form or a connection uses it. Change or delete those first.

A row is refused with This value does not fit the column.

The value does not match the column type. See the type table. Select values must be the value, not the label.

A row is refused with A row with this value already exists.

A Unique column already has that value.

Search finds nothing in a number or date column.

Search covers text columns only (Text, Text area, Email, URL, Select, WYSIWYG).

Numbers look like 10.500000.

Number columns are stored as decimals; the admin list and CSV show six decimals. Lists on the site print 10.5.

After Delete all rows new rows start at ID 1 again.

The table is emptied completely. See Browse, search and edit rows.

Upload a .csv file.

The file is not .csv or .txt. Save it again as CSV.

The file is larger than 50 MB. or the upload fails at once.

The import limit (50 MB) or PHP's upload_max_filesize / post_max_size is lower than the file. Raise them or split the file.

Accents are wrong (Ý, ü) in First rows of the file.

The file is not UTF-8 and the assumed code page does not match. Save as CSV UTF-8, or set the wpmcf/import/fallback_encoding filter (details).

All values land in one column.

The separator was not detected (a mixed or unusual one). Save as a standard comma or semicolon CSV.

Update is greyed out.

The table has no column that is both Unique and indexed. See Unique columns.

Some rows failed with Duplicate entry '...'.

The file repeats a value of a unique column, or the value already exists in Add mode. Use Update, or clean the file.

Numbers or choices came out empty.

Imports store an unreadable number or an unknown choice as empty without an error. Check the first rows and the choice values.

Rows of an Email column contain text that is not an address.

Imports do not validate emails.

An import into this data table is still running.

Wait for the first import. If it seems stuck, see Background tasks.

The import never starts or stops at 0 %.

Action Scheduler is not running (WP-Cron disabled or no visits). Run the queue from a system cron job.

A Replace left the table unchanged.

By design: The new data has no rows ... or N rows could not be written .... Fix the file and run it again.

Links to example.com are not allowed.

Only Google Sheets by default. Allow the host with wpmcf/data_tables/feed_hosts (how).

Enter a valid link. for a link that begins http://.

Only https links work.

The link returned a web page instead of CSV.

The sheet is private or the link is not a CSV export. Share it with "Anyone with the link" or use Publish to the web.

... refused access / ... answered "not found"

The sheet is private, or the link is wrong.

The column "x" is missing from the file.

The header text of the sheet changed. Fix the sheet or the mapping.

Sync automatically is disabled.

Scheduled sync is part of the Business plan. Sync now works on Pro.

The scheduled sync does not run.

Same as imports: Action Scheduler needs WP-Cron or a system cron. Also check the last status in the Data feed card.

The feed shows Last sync failed ... but the table has old rows.

By design: a failed sync keeps the previous rows.

WooCommerce products are not offered.

WooCommerce is not active.

Only some posts appear.

Content feeds read published, non-password-protected posts of the chosen type; WooCommerce products hidden from the catalog are skipped.

The list is empty for visitors but administrators see a hint.

Read the hint: "Choose an existing data table for this list." or "This list has no column to show. Mark columns as public under Data Tables › Settings."

A column is missing from the list.

It is not public. Settings tab of the table.

A filter shows too many rows.

The filter was dropped: its column is not public, or the operator is unknown (in is not supported). See Filters.

Filtering a Select column by its label shows nothing.

Filters compare the stored value (level:eq:a).

Rows changed but the page shows the old list.

The list refreshes at once, so a page cache is serving the old page. Purge it.

Page links go to the wrong place or two lists scroll together.

Give each list its own id="...".

The list vanished after a license ended.

A paid license that expired keeps placed lists printing. A list disappears only on a site without data tables (the free plugin, or a trial that ended).

The form does not appear.

It is inactive, the key is wrong, or the license has no forms (administrators see a note). Visitors see nothing in each case.

A logged-in visitor sees "You are already logged in." instead of the registration form.

Test registration forms while logged out.

"Registration is closed."

Turn on Settings › General › Anyone can register, or switch on Register even when registration is off in the form.

"Please log in to use this form."

The form is for logged-in users, or it is a profile form.

"You are not allowed to use this form."

A capability form and the user does not have it.

"You are not allowed to edit this entry."

A post form with post_id or ?wpmcf_edit= for a post the visitor may not edit, of another post type, or the visitor is not logged in.

"The form was sent too quickly."

The visitor (or a bot) sent it within 3 seconds of the page loading.

"The form has expired."

The page is older than 24 hours. Reload the page. A broken page cache serving a form without a token also causes this.

"Your session has changed."

A logged-in visitor's session ended. Log in again and resend.

"Too many entries were sent from here."

The rate limit. Behind a CDN or proxy every visitor shares one IP until you set WPMCF_CLIENT_IP_HEADER (how).

"This entry was already sent."

The same entry within 30 seconds. Wait, or change a value.

"Your entry could not be sent."

The honeypot box was filled (a bot, or a browser autofill). Disable autofill on the page's other plugins, or use a different field name on your own forms.

"Your entry could not be saved. Please try again later." in an entry form.

A guest sent a value that exists in a Unique column, or the row could not be saved; logged-in users see the exact reason.

"Something went wrong while saving your entry."

An unexpected error. See Settings › Health.

The success message does not show.

A Redirect to address is set; or the page was reloaded (the message shows once, for 10 minutes).

The submit button stays disabled after going back.

Reload the page.

The form works but looks plain.

Style the classes wpmcf-form, wpmcf-form__field, ... (Styling).

A field of my group is missing from the form.

It is Not available in forms (a picker type or an upload inside a repeater), the field is unticked in the editor, or the group has no location rule or is inactive.

A group with only a location rule for pages still shows in a post form.

Location rules are not evaluated for forms; only their existence matters.

A form that edits a profile or post leaves some fields unchanged.

Fields the form cannot show are never touched.

An invalid address in Send to has no effect.

It is cleared when saving; the admin email is used.

No notification email arrives.

Check Email me about entries, the address, and your site's mail delivery (SMTP plugin). Nothing is sent for refused entries.

Page cache plugin shows the form to logged-in users as for guests.

Exclude logged-in users from the cache; they need a nonce.

"The file for "x" is not an allowed type."

The extension is not in Allowed file types, or the file's contents do not match its extension. Without a list guests may upload only the default types (list).

"The file for "x" is larger than 2 MB."

The server's upload limit or wpmcf/forms/upload_max_bytes.

The page just reloads without a message after choosing a large file.

The whole request exceeded post_max_size; PHP dropped it. Raise the PHP limits.

The file is accepted but not stored.

The success message gets "The file for "x" could not be saved." Check disk space and the permissions of wp-content/uploads.

The Form plugin list is empty or the editor says none is active.

Activate Gravity Forms, Contact Form 7, WPForms or Fluent Forms.

Plugin not active badge in the list.

That plugin was switched off after the connection was made. The connection does nothing until it is active.

Rows are missing.

Open the list: the Failed counter and the last message tell why (a required column not filled, a value that does not fit, a unique value, no license). The form plugin itself is unaffected.

Entry ID is empty for Contact Form 7.

CF7 does not store entries.

Rows were not added for spam entries.

Gravity Forms and Fluent Forms entries marked spam are skipped; for CF7 a submission aborted by another plugin is skipped.

A file column is empty.

The file failed the type or size check, or was not in the form plugin's own upload folder. The failure shows as a warning.

Choices do not change.

The label or value column is not public, the table has no public column, or a filter uses a column that is not public; the form then keeps its own options.
