The dashboard and header
4 min read
Open WPM Fields › Dashboard. Its subtitle reads "Everything you have built, and what to do next." The Add field group button at the top right opens the new field group form.
Health notice
If the plugin caught an error nobody has looked at yet, or switched an integration off, a notice titled Some parts of the plugin need attention appears at the top, for example "1 new error was caught and skipped. Your site keeps working." Click View details to open Settings › Health. It disappears once you open that tab. See Health and troubleshooting.
The "Get started" checklist
A card with a progress bar and the line "N of M steps done". When everything is done its title becomes You are all set.
Step | Done when | How it completes |
|---|---|---|
Create a field group | At least one field group exists | Automatically |
Choose where it appears | A field group has location rules | Automatically |
Fill in a value | A value has been saved in a group's table (the plugin checks up to 20 groups, then remembers the result) | Automatically. The Add a post link opens a new post of the post type your group targets. |
Show it on your site | You click Mark as done | Manually. Use the |
Plan your programmatic SEO pages | You click Mark as done | Only appears if your goal is Programmatic SEO or Both. With Pro the link is Open Programmatic SEO; without Pro it reads See Pro plans. |
Buttons on the card:
- Run the setup wizard: only while the wizard is neither finished nor skipped.
- Hide: hides the whole checklist for the site. There is no button in the plugin to bring it back, so hide it only when you are done with it (see the FAQ).
Checklist progress and the hide switch are stored per site, not per user.
Overview
Five numbers:
Card | Meaning |
|---|---|
Field Groups | How many field groups exist |
Active tables | Groups whose database table exists |
Total fields | Fields (columns) across all groups |
Post Types | Post types you defined |
Taxonomies | Taxonomies you defined |
If one of the lists cannot be loaded you see "Some of your content could not be loaded. Reload the page to try again." and a dash instead of a number, never a false zero.
Your content
Cards for Field Groups, Post Types and Taxonomies. Each lists your items (click one to edit it), has a create link and a Manage … link, and shows a short hint when empty.
The fourth card: Programmatic SEO or "Do more with Pro"
Your plan | What you see |
|---|---|
Pro, Business or Agency | Programmatic SEO card with Live pages and Tasks (for example "3 (2 active)") and an Open Programmatic SEO link |
Free, never licensed or after a trial ended | Do more with Pro card with a See what Pro includes link and a Dismiss button |
Expired license | No card (see the notice on plugin screens, Trials, renewals and expiry) |
Dismiss hides the Pro card for the whole site and it stays hidden. It is the only upgrade prompt on the dashboard, and the plugin shows no site-wide upgrade nags.
The header
Every plugin screen has one header row:
- The logo and the main navigation: Dashboard, a Content menu (Field Groups, Post Types, Taxonomies, Options Pages, Global Data), Tools, and, depending on your plan, a Pro tools menu with Forms and Programmatic SEO and a Data Tables link.
- Search (see below).
- A notices toggle that folds away other plugins' admin notices so they do not push the screen down. It shows how many notices there are.
- Settings.
- Get Pro: only on sites without a license. It opens the Pro page.
- On small screens, the navigation folds into a Menu button.
Search (Ctrl K or ⌘ K)
Press Ctrl K (Windows, Linux) or ⌘ K (Mac) on any plugin screen, or click the Search… box. A dialog opens: "Search field groups, fields, pages, settings…".
- It lists Quick actions (for example "Add field group", "Add post type", "Add taxonomy"), Pages (every screen you can open) and Settings (each Settings tab, shown as "Settings: Health").
- After two characters and a short pause it also searches your records: field groups, fields, post types and more from every module.
- Up and Down move, Enter opens, Esc closes.
- It does not hijack the shortcut inside a rich text editor, where Ctrl K inserts a link.
- If searching records fails, you see "Could not search your field groups and other records. Pages and settings are still listed."
Plugins screen shortcuts
Under the plugin's name on Plugins you get Settings and Get Pro (free) or My plan (licensed).
Next: Settings.
