Multisite
2 min read
Mass Custom Fields works on WordPress Multisite. The rule is simple: every site on the network is its own Mass Custom Fields installation, with its own data.
What is per site
Item | Behaviour |
|---|---|
Database tables | Each site gets its own set with its own prefix, for example |
Field groups, post types, taxonomies, options pages, Global Data | Defined per site; they are not shared across the network |
Settings (WPM Fields › Settings) | Per site, including "Delete all plugin data on uninstall" |
Setup wizard, dashboard checklist and Pro card state | Per site |
Health log | Per site |
If you want the same definitions on several sites, use WPM Fields › Tools to export them as JSON on one site and import them on the others, or keep them in a theme's local JSON folder.
Activating
- Per site: activate it on each site's Plugins screen. The setup wizard opens once on that site.
- Network activation: works, but the setup wizard does not open automatically on any site. Each site's tables are created the first time that site loads (front end or admin) after activation, not all at once. A site you never open has no tables yet.
- A site created after the plugin was network activated gets its tables on its first load in the same way.
Network admin
The plugin has no Network Admin screens. Open WPM Fields inside each site's own dashboard.
Deleting a site
When you delete a site from Network Admin › Sites, WordPress drops that site's tables, and Mass Custom Fields adds its own tables to that list, regardless of the "Delete all plugin data" setting. A deleted site keeps no data.
Deleting the plugin from the network
Deleting the plugin runs a cleanup for each site separately and only on sites that enabled "Delete all plugin data on uninstall". Other sites keep their tables and settings. See Uninstalling.
Licensing on a network
Plans count sites as shown in Plans and licensing: Pro 1 site, Business 5 sites, Agency unlimited. The license quota is managed by Freemius from your account, so check Manage license to see which sites use a slot.
Troubleshooting
Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
A subsite has no Mass Custom Fields tables | Open that subsite once (admin or front end); the tables are created on first load |
Changes on one site do not appear on another | By design. Export and import definitions with Tools |
Subsite admin has no WPM Fields menu | The plugin is not active there, or the user is not an administrator of that site |
